Digital Menu

The Digital menu section drives the screens that display your menu to customers — a TV above the counter, a board in the window, a vertical display next to the till.

Note

The section appears in the sidebar only once Enable digital menu has been switched on for your establishment by your Posbel account manager — see Features Enabled by Posbel. Access is then available to administrators, and to other users granted the Digital menu ability.

Warning

The Digital menu screen is not shown on a phone. Use a tablet or desktop to design a menu.

The digital menu is not applicable to the Belgian SCE-certified version (Version 1).

Playlists and Scenes

A screen shows a playlist. A playlist is a series of scenes, displayed one after the other in a loop.

To build one:

  1. Click Add playlist and give it a Name.
  2. Set how scenes follow one another:
    • Transition type – Fade or Slide
    • Transition duration (sec) – how long the transition itself takes
  3. Click Add scene for each screen you want in the rotation.

For each scene you define:

  • Order – its position in the playlist
  • Display duration – how long it stays on screen
  • Content type – what the scene shows
  • Product groups – which parts of your catalog it displays
  • Theme – the template used to lay it out
  • Background type and Background URL – the image or video behind the content
  • Vertical TV – enable for screens mounted in portrait

Tip

Keep display durations long enough to read a full column — a customer glancing up should not lose their place because the scene changed mid-menu.

Designing a Scene

Themes range from ready-made layouts to a fully configurable one. The configurable theme exposes its settings as groups of options:

Header — the title and subtitle above the menu, whether the header uses the first column only or spans the first two, its alignment, the space below it, and the font size and colour of both lines.

Theme — background colour, default text colour, the base colour of group cards, the accent colour used for highlights, titles and prices, and the language used to pick translated product descriptions.

Layout — number of columns, the gap between them, the spacing between groups inside a column, reserved empty space on the left and right, and the spacing and alignment of the per-column headers.

Typography — font sizes for column titles and subtitles, group titles, product names and descriptions.

Style — a card preset applied to group and product cards: Classic, Modern, Minimal, Compact, Clean or Framed.

Visibility — what appears on each product line:

  • Show prices and Show € symbol
  • Show dots – the dotted leader between the product name and its price
  • Show descriptions
  • Show product image, with a product image size in pixels

Content — the scene is built column by column. For each column you can:

  • Show or hide its header, and set its title and subtitle
  • Add one or more group sections, each pointing at a product group
  • Choose the visible products within that group, so a screen can show a selection rather than the entire group

Tip

Build one column completely and check it on the real screen before adding the rest. Font sizes that look right on a laptop are frequently too small on a display seen from across the room.
