Table Plan

A table plan is a picture of your dining room on the register: the tables where they actually stand, coloured by whether they are occupied, and tapped to open an account rather than picked from a list.

The plan is drawn in the Posbel app, on a register. There is no table plan editor in the Posbel Admin panel — the back office is where tables and zones are created, and the app is where they are arranged.

What the Plan Is Made Of

Three things come together, and two of them are set up before you draw anything:

A plan is a layout only. Deleting a shape from it never deletes the table, and a table with no shape on the plan is still there to be opened from the table list.

Who Can Create or Edit One

Editing is restricted, because one plan serves every device in the establishment.

Create/Edit your table plan appears in the main menu only when both of these are true:

the device is signed in as a Main or Register account, and
the person using it is authenticated as an Administrator, by PIN

Anyone who can take orders can view the plan and open tables from it. Only an administrator can change the layout.

Note

In an establishment set up as a practice rather than a restaurant, the same option reads Create/Edit your room plan, and the feature works identically.

Drawing a Plan

Open the Editor

From the home screen, open the main menu and tap Create/Edit your table plan. The screen opens on Edit Plan, with the prompt Tap an item to add it.

The shapes available are:

Place, Assign, Replace, Remove

Place — tap a shape in the left-hand list, then tap an empty cell. The shape lands there.
Assign — tap a placed shape. The left-hand list switches to your tables; tap the table it represents and its number appears on the shape.
Replace — with a shape selected in the list, tap a cell that already holds one. The shape changes and the table assignment is kept.
Remove — tap a placed shape and use the delete action in the little menu beside it. That removes it from the plan only.

+ and − change the grid by one row and one column at a time, and the grid will not go below a single row and column. Grow it when you run out of room at the edges.

Warning

A shape with no table assigned to it is decoration. It is drawn, but it cannot be opened during service, so the last step of drawing a plan is always to check that every table shape carries a number.

Zones and the All Tab

Each shape belongs to the tab that was selected when it was placed, so a zone tab holds its own layout.

The All tab is different: a plan drawn there is a shared plan, meant for the whole establishment rather than one zone. The editor always offers the tab, so a shared plan can be started at any time, and zones are optional — an establishment with none simply draws its single plan on All.

Save

Save writes the plan to your establishment, not just to this device. Every register picks it up.

Tip

The Save button only appears once something has actually changed, so it doubles as a reminder that you have unsaved work.

Note

After saving a plan for the first time, the way into it from the home screen appears the next time that screen is opened fresh. Closing and reopening the app is the certain way to see it.

Using the Plan During Service

How you get in depends on whether you use zones:

With zones — the map button beside the zone tabs on the home screen
Without zones — a Plan chip next to the screen title

Either way the button only appears once a plan has been drawn.

On the Plan

The grid lines are hidden, leaving the room.
A table that is occupied is shown as such, and the plan keeps up on its own as other registers take orders.
Tap a table to open it, exactly as tapping it in the list would.
The list of tables stays available on the left, for anything not on the plan.
The tabs switch zones, and the zone you were last on is remembered for next time.

Note

The All tab behaves slightly differently here than in the editor. It appears when it adds something — several zones exist, or one zone exists but some tables sit outside it — and stays available whenever a shared plan has been drawn. If a single zone already covers every table, the tab is hidden rather than repeating it.

Tip

Moving an account to another table can be finished on the plan: start the move on the table, then pick the destination from the plan or the list, and confirm.

Warning

If shifts are in use and none is open, opening the plan asks for a shift first. That is the same rule as the rest of the register, not something particular to the plan.
