PIN Login

After a successful login with a Main or Register account on a tablet device, the user is directed to the PIN Login Page.

This screen is used to identify the active user who will operate the POS application.

Purpose

The PIN login step ensures that actions performed on the POS terminal are properly attributed to the correct employee.

Each user (Server, Admin, or Main) must enter their assigned PIN code, which is configured in the Admin Panel during user creation or editing.

Once the PIN is validated:

  • The user is considered active for the session.
  • All transactions and actions will be assigned to this user in the system.

Worker Shifts Requirement

If worker shifts are enabled — which they are by default in the Belgian SCE-certified version (Version 1) — a Worker Shift Prompt will appear immediately after PIN entry, but only if a booking period is already active.

  • If no establishment shift (booking period) is running, the system will first prompt the user to start a booking period.
  • Once a booking period is started, the user will be forwarded to the Worker Shift page.
  • The user must then start a new worker shift before continuing.
  • No actions can be taken on the POS tablet until both the booking period and worker shift are active.
  • After starting the worker shift, the user gains full access to the app's home screen and features.

Warning

Worker shifts are mandatory in Belgian SCE-certified deployments, and each worker shift is tied to a booking period.
A worker shift cannot be started unless a booking period is running.

This ensures that all user actions are properly tracked and associated with both the employee and the operational session (booking period), supporting legal compliance and detailed activity auditing.

When the PIN Screen Appears

The PIN screen belongs to the shared device, not to a size of device or a version. Three conditions must all hold for it to appear at all:

  1. The device is signed in as a Register or Main account — the shared terminal staff take turns on.
  2. Pin lock is enabled on your establishment.
  3. Pin lock timeout (seconde) is greater than 0.

If any one of them is not met, the app never asks for a PIN.

Disabling It Entirely

Turning Pin lock off in the Admin Panel switches the whole mechanism off, not just the automatic locking:

  • No PIN is requested when the app opens, however long the tablet has been idle
  • The screen never locks during service
  • The Lock button disappears from the Home screen — there is no way to lock manually either

Warning

The timeout is irrelevant when Pin lock is off. Leaving a timeout of 60 seconds configured does not produce a lock after a minute, or ever. The two settings are not independent: the timeout only has meaning while Pin lock is on.

Setting Pin lock timeout (seconde) to 0 has the same effect as switching Pin lock off — no timer is started, and the Lock button is hidden.

With It Enabled

  • The app asks for a PIN as soon as the Home screen opens, so a tablet is never left open from a previous session.
  • It locks again after the configured seconds of inactivity. Any touch restarts the countdown.
  • The Lock button on the Home screen locks it immediately, without waiting.

Users Signing In Directly

A user signing in with their own credentials, rather than through a shared Register or Main device, is already identified. They are not asked for a PIN, and Pin lock does not apply to them.

The Worker Shift Exception

Opening the Worker Shift screen asks for the PIN again if the last unlock was more than 30 seconds ago. This is deliberate and independent of your timeout: starting or stopping someone's worked hours has to be attributed to the person doing it, not to whoever unlocked the till earlier.

Note

In the Belgian SCE-certified version this 30-second re-prompt applies even when Pin lock is switched off, because worker shifts have to be attributable. The session locking itself still follows the Pin lock setting in both versions.

Tip

On a floor-standing register, a short timeout is the cheapest protection you have — it costs staff four digits and stops anyone walking up to an unattended till. Switch Pin lock off only where the tablet is never out of sight.
