Self-Ordering Kiosk

The Kiosk is a customer-facing mode of the POS application. Instead of a member of staff taking the order, the device shows a self-service interface where the customer builds, identifies and pays for their own order.

A kiosk device runs the same application as the POS, but is configured with the Kiosk app mode on the user account assigned to that device. That is what makes the screen open the customer-facing interface instead of the standard POS.

Note

The kiosk is available in the Belgian SCE-certified version as well as the International version. Kiosk sales are signed like any other sale.

The Three App Modes

Every user is assigned an App Mode, which decides what the device does when that user is logged in:

One establishment commonly runs all three at once: registers in App mode, one or more kiosks in the entrance, and a screen in the kitchen.

How It Works

The kiosk waits on a start screen until a customer touches it, guides them through their order, takes payment, and prints a ticket. The order then arrives exactly where a staff-taken order would: in the accounts list on the POS, and on the kitchen display or kitchen printer.

Setup

  1. Create a user in the Admin Panel for the kiosk device.
  2. Ask your Posbel account manager to set that user's App Mode to Kiosk — the mode is not shown on your user form.
  3. Log into the application on the kiosk device using that user's credentials; it opens the kiosk interface automatically.
  4. Configure what the kiosk offers, on the user and on the establishment — see Configuration.

Tip

Give each kiosk its own user rather than sharing one across devices. Payment methods, order modes and the printer are all set per user, so separate users let you run a card-only kiosk next to one that also accepts cash.
